Smile, You’re On In-Vehicle Cameras!

How many times have you been on video? Maybe a few decades ago, the answer would be “not many”. You would have to be lucky (or unlucky!) to appear on TV or any other video. However, nowadays, most people use phones and take videos. This is the same thing for business fleets and in-vehicle cameras.

Very few business vehicles had cameras a decade ago. However, cameras are now one of the fastest growing vehicle gadgets. In particular, a lot of businesses use in-vehicle cameras for different reasons.

Let’s explore a few examples on how businesses use in-vehicle cameras.

Bus Companies Protecting their Drivers

In-vehicle cameras are popular in bus fleets. Whereas other business fleet drivers might dislike cameras, a lot of bus driver understand that cameras can protect them from unruly passengers and disputes.

Unruly passengers

Unfortunately, a lot of bus drivers deal with unruly passengers. It’s a sad part of the job because bus driver assaults are common in some areas.

For instance, a Michigan bus service driver was recently assaulted after a fare dispute. Thankfully, another passenger caught the incident on camera and reported it to police. However, the bus union wondered what would have happened if there were no bystanders.

Many bus, taxi, and limo services end up installing cameras as a way to protect drivers from similar events.

Disputes

There’s a saying in sports that referees usually miss the player that started an incident but penalize the player that reacts. This also applies to bussing.

Sometimes, people take videos of drivers reacting to passenger disputes, post it on YouTube and bash the driver. Unfortunately, viewers would join in on bashing the bus driver without getting context of the whole incident.

As a result, some busses carry in-vehicle cameras and mics to record and tell the whole story.

Game Shows Filmed on In-vehicle Cameras!

Some TV shows also use in-vehicle cameras. For example, have you ever watched the show Cash Cab? Cash Cab is a game show that takes place in a taxi. The host picks up unsuspecting customers and then surprises them with flashing lights and sounds.

Customers who agree to go on the show are then filmed as they go through a trivia contest. The Cash Cab gives money for every correct answer but kicks out participants who get three incorrect answers.

Of course, Cash Cab uses in-vehicle cameras do make all of this possible. Cash Cab have several cameras that record audio and video inside the taxi to give its TV audience multiple views.
